Obituary of Marilyn E. (Cormier) Chigas
Marilyn E (Cormier) Chigas, 82, of Peabody, died Tuesday morning at the Sutton Hill Nursing Center in North Andover following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Nicholas Chigas. Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Ethel (Lunney) Cormier. She was raised and educated in Montreal, Canada and later in 1952 moved to the United States and has lived in Peabody for the past 67 years. Marilyn was employed with Catholic Charites for over 35 years before she retired in 2003. She was a Eucharistic Minister at the Middleton Jail for over 19 years and always had a prayer line open for all those who needed special prayers at that time. She enjoyed traveling to the White Mountains in Lincoln, NH and cherished the time she spent with her children and later grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Chigas of Peabody and Matthew Chigas of Campton, NH, her brother, Gerald and his wife Sue Cormier of Florida and by her loving grandchildren, Kelsey, Lucas, Dimitrios and Catalyna Chigas and by David Mistretta, and is expecting her first great grandchild. She was predeceased by her son Harry Chigas. Following cremation, visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by her Funeral Service at 12:00 PM noon at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
