Obituary of Charles G. Bagley
Charles G. Charlie Bagley 88 years husband of Sophie J. (Romanovitz) Bagley of Peabody died Tuesday at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Bagley was born June 4, 1915 in Boston son of the late Roy C. and Cora P.E. (Sylvester) Bagley. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1933. During WWII he served in the Coast Guard Reserve as a Seaman First Class.
Mr. Bagley was employed for 43 years at the General Electric Co. in Lynn and Wilmington 33 of which he was a supervisor and 10 years as a consultant prior to his retirement in 1976. He served for 40 years as an advisory committee member for the Peabody Vocational School an also served for 33 years as President of the Sokokis Lake Association in Limerick Maine where he had summered since the 1950’ s . He was an active member of the 1933 Peabody High Alumni committee and co-editor of their observer news. Mr. Bagley was licensed burner man, ham radio operator, collected all types of tools and loved building wood model planes as a hobby.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 63 years of marriage he is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Robert C. and Eileen Bagley of West Virginia, Roy W. and Bonnie Bagley of Gray Maine; a daughter, Dianne J. Smith of Peabody; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Diana Bagley of Townsend, Keith and Alison Bagley of Leominster, Karen M. Bagley of Brighton and Kelly Anne Smith of Peabody; 3 great grandchildren, Hannah Rose Bagley and Nicholas Bagley of Townsend and Evelyn Bagley of Leominster. He was also the grandfather of the late Lisa Bagley.
His funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location. Relatives and friend may pay their respects Friday 4 - 7 p.m. A committal of ashes will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Maine SIDS Foundation C/O 14 Charlonat Drive, Gray Maine 04039.
