Obituary of Ruth E. (Lovely) Donahue

Ruth E. ((Lovely) Donahue, 89 years of Peabody, died Wednesday at the Port Healthcare in Newburyport following an extended illness. Mrs. Donahue was born August 5, 1914 in Lynn daughter of the late George and Florence (Cushing) Lovely. She attended the Lynn Public schools including Lynn English High School. Prior to her marriage she worked in the shoe industry in Lynn. Mrs. Donahue married Denis Donahue in 1934 and devoted her life to her late husband, children and grandchildren with a strong sense of duty and family loyalty. In many ways Ruth was considered a thought provoking woman by her family and friends. Often ahead of her times in thinking, she would often dream of things that never were and ask why not? She would address injustices with her pen, sending letters to the editor of local newspapers. During her life Ruth was an active member of her parish churches, participant in variety shows and church choirs. She was proud to be a an active with the Peabody Council on Aging, the Golden Agers and a Charter resident of the Peabody House. She is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Francis D. and Jean Donahue of Conway NH and Brian R. and Sandy Donahue of No. Andover; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also pre deceased by 5 brothers and a sister. May Ruth and her dreams ever dwell in the kind and faithful shelter of the Trinity. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Saturday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Lynn. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peabody Council on Aging 79 Central St., Peabody MA 01960.
