Obituary of Athena (Kazakis) Gikas

Athena (Kazakis) Gikas, 92, beloved wife of the late Thomas Gikas, died on Thursday morning at the Peabody Glen Nursing Center following a brief illness. Born in the village of North Epiros in Albania, which soon became part of Greece, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Alexandra Kazakis. She lived there for almost 40 years, then emigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody where she lived for over 51 years. Mrs. Gikas worked as a Stitcher with New England Sportswear in Peabody for several years, then with Star Sportswear in Lynn until her retirement 30 years ago. She was an active communicant of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, and was a member of the Philoptohos Athena Society of Peabody. She loved being with her family and friends. She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas & Theodora Gikas of Peabody; two grandchildren, Thomas Gikas of Danvers and Athena Zachariades of Salem; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She has two sisters in Greece. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5 - 9p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody
