Obituary of Alvan A. Innis
Alvan A. Innis 66 years, husband of Grace M. (Lagg) Innis of Peabody, died Saturday at the Rosewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody after a 21/2 year battle with a brain tumor.
Mr. Innis was born April 28, 1937 in Peabody son of the late Ralph E. and Sarah T. (Geraghty) Innis. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1954. he received a degree in business in 1959 from Northeastern University in Boston and his Masters in Education from Leslie College in Cambridge.
Mr. Innis began his teaching career at the Peabody High School which is now the Higgins Middle School and became an assistant principal at the McCarthy School where he remained until it’ s closing. While at the Burke School in West Peabody for 19 years he was Vice Principal and taught 5th grade until his retirement in 2001. He and his brother Warren Innis owned and operated the A&W Realty Trust in Peabody and built numerous homes during the 70’ s and 80’ s.
Mr. Innis was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of Msgr. John J. Linnehan Council 3745 in Lynnfield. He was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to his wife and best friend with whom he shared 36 1/2 years of marriage, he is survived by a brother and his wife, Warren A. and Aldyth Innis of Ipswich; a niece Robyn Innis of Ipswich and a nephew Ralph Innis of Peabody and his devoted Dachshund Maxwell.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Cahill-Brodeur Facility of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the VNA of Greater Salem, 27 Congress St., Salem MA 01970.
