Obituary of Maria (de Sousa da Silva Melo) da Silva
Maria (Melo) da Silva, formally of Center Street, Peabody, died Monday afternoon at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel I. da Silva.
Born and raised in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joao da Silva & Rosa Emilia da Silva Melo. She had lived for most of her life in Portugal before immigrating to the United States 22 years ago and has been a resident of Peabody ever since.
While living in Peabody she had worked for Peter’ s Laundry in Salem for 10 years before retiring a few years ago.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Maria & Joseph Martins of Peabody; a brother, Manuel Silva of Peabody, and 2 grandchildren, Alexander Joseph & Jacob Anthony Martins, both of Peabody.
PEABODY, April 8, 2002. Maria (Melo) da Silva, 62, wife of the late Manuel I. da Silva, and loving mother of Maria Martins of Peabody. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility (978) 531-0398, followed be a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
