Obituary of Russell F. Dunn
Russell F. Dunn, 88 years, of Peabody, died Thursday April 11, 2002 at his home after a five year courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy L. (Peters)Dunn who passed away March 12, 2002 and whith whom he had shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.
Mr. Dunn was born on July 21, 1913 in Martins River, Nova Scotia, Canada son of the late Harry A. and Hattie (Boehner) Dunn. He was raised and educated in Peabody graduating from Peabody High School. He pursued his education at Bentley College School of Business in Boston for 2 years. During WWII he served as an airplane and engine mechanic with the rank of Sergeant in the U. S. Army attached to the 376th Fighter Squadron 361 Fighter Group. He was involved in the Air Offensive in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe.
Prior to moving back to Peabody two years ago he had resided in Lynn for 40 years. He was employed by the Massachusetts Electric Company in Lynn in the business office for over 30 years retiring in 1978. Following his retirement he then served as Treasurer of the Massachusetts Electric Company Credit Union in Malden until 1990.
Mr. Dunn had a very strong faith and was a communicant of St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church in Peabody. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed people and life. He was a golf caddy for years, an avid horse racing fan, enjoyed travelling with his wife and very dedicated to his grandchildren. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his children, Robert S. Dunn, Janice M. Scotina both of Lynn, Barbara Hancock of Milton, FL, Russell J. Dunn and Roxanne L. Orphanos both of Peabody; his grandchildren, James Scotina, Jr. of Lynn, Andrew and Heather Orphanos both of Peabody, Tracy DiRaimo of Pensacola, FL and Cheryl Hancock of Milton, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Earle T. Dunn.
His funeral will be held Tuesday April 16 at 9 a.m. from the Cahill-Brodeur facility at 20 Church St., Peabody 978-531-0472 of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home followed by a service at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church, 12 Washington St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
