Obituary of Edward P Gear

Edward P. Gear, 73, of Treasure Island, Fla., and Ipswich, died early Sunday morning at the Pasadena Palms Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., from complications following surgery. He was the devoted husband of Jeannette (Girard) (Espinola) Gear. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Powers) Gear. He was raised and educated in Everett. He later lived in Melrose and upon his retirement, he would spend winter months in Florida and summer months in Ipswich. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Federal Government as a civilian with the Department of Defense. Mr. Gear was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church in Ipswich and St. John Vianney in St. Petersburg Florida. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward and Arlene Gear of Wilmington, Thomas E. Gear of Peabody and Kenneth Gear of Revere; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jerome Hewitt of Greeley, Colorado; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Mary Lou Gear of Palm Harbor, Fla., two sisters, Virginia Murphy of Everett and Eileen Arsenault of Malden; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Sarah Hewitt, and Rebecca, Edward, and Emily Gear; three step grandchildren, William, Andrew and Danielle Espinola, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Gear. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Hope Church, Ipswich to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
