Obituary of Vera J. (Jones) McCarthy
Vera J. (Jones) McCarthy, 90, of Peabody, died Monday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Ralph P. McCarthy.
Born in Troy, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Annie (Wilson) Jones. She was raised and educated in Clanton, Alabama, she late meet her future husband in Washington D.C. and has lived in Peabody for the past 66 years.
She was a mother who dedicated her life to raising and supporting her children and later her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lorraine McCarthy of Reading, Phil and Carole McCarthy of Peabody, and Edmund and Mary Ann McCarthy of Glastonbury, CT; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet McCarthy and her husband Jim Meyers of Modesto, California, and Christine and David Matayabas of Melrose, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by several brothers and a sister.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Monday from 4 until 7 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
