Obituary of Mary P. (Chmiel) McDonald

Mary P. (Chmiel) McDonald, 90 years of Peabody wife of the late Charles R. McDonald, died Sunday at the Harborside Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers. Mrs. McDonald was born August 13, 1913 in Peabody daughter of the late Walenty and Apalonia (Wawskiewicz) Chmiel. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. McDonald began her working career as a paster for the A.C. Lawrence Co., of Peabody. After raising her family she owned and operated Mary’ s Lunch in Salem for many years until it’ s closing. She then was employed for 20 years as a nana in Swampscott for the Sparks family. In 1990 she retired after helping her son at his business named the Store in Central Square in Lynn. Mrs. McDonald loved caring for her 2 grandchildren, cooking and being a nana. She is survived by a son, Charles R. McDonald Jr. of Peabody; a brother, Edward Chmiel of Peabody; a sister, Helen Pechinsky of Peabody; 3 grandchildren, Charlene G. McDonald of Peabody, Douglas C. McDonald U.S. Army Corps of Engineer stationed in Iraq and his wife Nellie McDonald of R.I.; a great granddaughter, Makayla McDonald of R.I. and several nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by her siblings, Joseph, John and Bryne Chmiel, Anna Mullin and Sophie Danish. Her funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church Salem Peabody line. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 7 p.m. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem
