Obituary of Helen Welch

Helen Katie (McVann) Welch PEABODY Helen Katie (McVann) Welch, 71, beloved wife of William A. Welch, Jr. of Peabody, died Sunday at the Blair House Alzheimer’ s Unit in Tewksbury following a long illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Attorney James E. and Helen (Regan) McVann. She was raised and educated in Peabody. She graduated from St. Chretienne Acadamie in Salem, received her BA in Education from Trinity College in Washington, DC. She pursued her studies and earned her Masters in Education Degree from Boston University. Mrs. Welch began her teaching career at the South Memorial School in Peabody. She was later employed at the Purity Supreme Supermarket on Lowell St. in Peabody. She enjoyed time in her garden, traveling, and being with family and friends. Mrs. Welch is survived by: her husband, William A. Welch, Jr. of Peabody, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage; one son and daughter-in-law, William A. Welch, III & Kimberly Welch of Tewksbury; one granddaughter, Meaghan Welch of Tewksbury; two sisters-in-law, Marge McVann of Peabody and Ruth McVann of Minnesota, and she leaves many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Philip McVann, Robert McVann, and Paul McVann. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Office of Administrator, Blair House Alzheimer’ s Unit, 10 Erlin Terrace, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
