Obituary of Lawrence P. "Larry" McCauley

Lawrence P. Larry McCauley 68 years of Peabody died Sunday evening at his home after a battle with lung cancer. Mr. McCauley was born September 3, 1935 in Peabody son of the late Peter W. and Margaret (Sampson) McCauley. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1953 and was a lifelong resident. From 1959 to 1962 he served in the United Sates Navy and was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany on his last tour of duty. Mr. McCauley began his working career with Sylvania in Salem following his high school graduation and retired as a mechanic from Osram Sylvania after 43 years with the company. While working he attended evening classes for 3 years at Merrimack College and majored in accounting. He was also a Ham radio operator for many years. Mr. McCauley loved helping family members and neighborhood residents in need. He enjoyed doing home repairs, traveling and using his computer for research. He is survived by 2sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen C. McCauley of Peabody with whom he lived, Elizabeth Betty and Thomas Leavitt of Beverly; 2 brothers, Robert J. McCauley of Salem and Richard P. McCauley of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Penny McCauley Cote of Chicago ILL; 5 nephews, Paul Leavitt of TX, Robert McCauley of West Medford, Mark McCauley of Cape Cod, David McCauley of NH and Brian McCauley of ME; 3 nieces, Donna Gillis of NM, Linda Stevens of Cape Cod and Laurie Nangle of ILL; 10 grand nieces and grand nephews, 4 great grand nieces and great grand nephews, an uncle, 3 aunts and several cousins. He was also pre deceased by a brother William J. McCauley and a sister-in-law, Theresa B. McCauley. His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923 or the North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody MA 01960.
