Obituary of Chesley M. Newell

Chesley M. Newell, 71, of Peabody, died late Sunday evening at the Brigham and Women’ s Hospital, Boston, following a five year long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Kathleen (Jaynes) Newell of Peabody and the late Alice (Convery) Newell. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Reuben and Winnifred (Snow) Newell. He was raised an educated in Revere, attended Revere Public Schools, and was a graduate of Revere High School, class 1952. He later lived in Everett, Malden for twelve years and has been living in Peabody for the past 34 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he worked on the North Shore as a General Contractor, Newcon Construction, and was clerk of the works for many communities on the North Shore. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Saugus and the Polish Club in Danvers. He also enjoyed dancing, playing music, spending time with his family, traveling, and was always considered to be the life of the party. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Andrea and SFC (Ret) Robert Kujawa of Danvers, Colette Newell of Norway, Maine, and Colleen and Shawn Derrivan of Peabody; a brother, Donald Newell of Saugus; four sisters, Beulah Kanarkiewicz of Saugus, Ruby MacDonald of Nashua, NH, Phyllis Leston of Danvers, and Fern Ruble of Woburn; 13 grandchildren, Robert, Sandra, Colette, 1st Lt Richard, and Laurie Kujawa, and NiCole, Jacqueline, Richard, and Genevieve Bourgeois, and Manny Pupo IV, Alexander Newell, and Maura and Thomas Derrivan; four stepsons, Robert Jaynes of Billerica, Kevin and Gregory Jaynes of Peabody and Mark Jaynes of Lynn; 6 Step grandchildren Jeremy, Zachery, Riley, Sarah, Kyle, and Cameron Jaynes. He was the brother of the late Bertha Newell His funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’ s Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
