Obituary of Bernard J. Hynes
Bernard J. Hynes, 79, husband of the late Eleanor (Keefe) Hynes, died peacefully Saturday morning at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Thomas J. & Violet (Irwin) Hynes. He was raised in Somerville and had attended Schools in Somerville and graduated from St. Joseph’ s High School. He later moved to Malden and has spent the last 48 years living in Peabody.
He graduated from Northeastern University with a BS degree and later attended Merrimack College in Andover. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the United States Navy as Co-pilot.
After the War, he was a dedicated citizen who spent the better half of 30 years working for the defense of this Country as engineer with the Raytheon Company in Tewksbury and Andover. He was the recipient of many professional awards, including from the American Society of Engineers, Doctorate of Motor Selectronics, and Engineer of the year for American Value Society.
He was a member of the Airdrome Museum in Rienbeck, NY, which restores BY Planes. He also devoted his time and money to many children’ s organizations including home for Little Wanders and the American Indian Children’ s fund.
He is survived by his loving family, three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Bernard J. & Nancy Hynes, Jr., of Windsor, Ct., Neal & Dorothy Hynes of Methuen, and Gary Hynes of Peabody; 3 daughters Anne M., and Eileen Hynes, both of Peabody, and Tracey Hynes of Saugus; 2 brothers, Thomas Hynes of Rochester, NH, and Donald Hynes of Salem; 8 grandchildren, Linda Quinn, Thomas Hynes, Troy Cann, Neal Hynes, Patrick Hynes, Shauna Hynes, and Taylor & Brianna Hynes; 1 great grandchild, Brittany Hynes; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Lawrence and Stephen Hynes.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility (978) 531-0472, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody @ 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
