Obituary of Edith G. (Hall) Hodgins

Edith G. (Hall) Hodgins, 88, of Terrace Estates, Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John J. Hodgins with whom she shared more than 59 years of marriage. Born and raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Roy & Gertrude (McLaughlin) Hall. She had attended Somerville Public Schools and went on to graduated from Radcliffe College, class of 1936. She later moved to Springfield in 1948 and had lived there until retiring to Peabody 25 years ago. She had worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts in Springfield and later went on to work for the Springfield School System as a Public Schools Teacher prior to her retirement 25 years ago. She is survived by a sister, Janet F. Winter of Reading and her children, William & Dennis of Reading, Norman Winter of Ca., and Lisa Richardson of North Reading; a sister-in-law, Melba Hynes of Dunnellan, Fla., and also by several nieces, nephews and their children. She was the sister of the late Roy, Albert, and Chester Hall, and Mary, Elsa, and Dorothy Hall Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility (978) 531-0398, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visitation on Monday from 4-8 PM. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Mattapan.
