Obituary of Helen I. (Safchuk) Shaw

Helen I. (Safchuk) Shaw, 76, of Peabody, died late Monday evening at the Rosewood Nursing Home, following a brief illness. Born in Hyde Park, she was the daughter of the late Kazimierz and Kazimiera (Rakowska) Safchuk. She was raised and educated in Hyde Park, later lived in Walpole for 22 years, and later in Lynn and has spent the last 10 years living in Peabody. She first worked as LPN at Saugus General Hospital then was the assistant to the Manager of reservations for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Boston, and finally before her retirement in 1988, she was a secretary for over 20 years for the Polaroid Corporation in Norwood. She was a member of St. Hedwig Society and Sacred Heart, both in Cambridge. She also did a lot of volunteer work for the greater Lynn Red Cross. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Mary Jane Shaw of Peabody; a daughter Carol Ann Shaw of Sudbury; six grandchildren Edward M. Shaw, Debra Leno, Kristine Gemma, Jennifer Bogiages, Philip and Jay Sweeney; and 8 great grandchildren. She was the former mother-in-law of Ellen Shaw of Peabody, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friend are invited to attend. Visitation on SATURDAY from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Burial in St. Joseph’ s Cemetery, West Roxbury
