Obituary of Morgan F. Thorpe, Jr.

Morgan F. George Thorpe, Jr., 70, of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Monday morning at his home. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Elliott) Thorpe of Peabody with whom he shared over 45 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of Jessie (Lee) Thorpe of Peabody and the late Morgan F. Thorpe, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody, attended Peabody Public Schools, and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1952. After high school, he enlisted with the United States Army and served during the Korean War, and was a recipient of the National Defense Medal. After the war, he went to work at the former West Lynn Creamery in Lynn, which later became Garelick Farms. He worked for over 40 years before retiring in April 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling and he always had a strong work ethic. Besides his loving wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, David and Daniel Thorpe, both of Peabody; two daughters and a son-in-law, Liane Thorpe of Plantation, Fla., and Linda and Paul Slavin of Peabody; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Peggy Thorpe of Peabody; a sister, Barbara Bergstrom of Peabody; four grandchildren, Patrick and Sarah Slavin of Peabody and Natasha and Kandice Thorpe of Beverly, and also is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother of the late Robert Thorpe and Nancy Willis His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 5 until 8:00 PM Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
