Obituary of Robert J Gill
Robert J. Gill, 78, of Peabody, died Friday at the
Shaughnessey Rehabilitation Hospital, Salem after a long illness. He was the husband of
Rita Posie (Moquin) Gill with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
A lifelong Peabody resident, he was born on April 23, 1925, the son of the late Patrick and Catherine (Mullen) Gill and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1942.
He then entered the US Navy serving four years in the South Pacific as a parachute rigger prior to his discharge in April, 1946. Following his military service, he attended Salem Commercial School where he received an accounting degree and also was recognized for excellence in scholarship while serving as president of the student council.
He later attended Salem State College.
He became an accountant for many local corporations including, GTE Sylvania, Bursaw Oil in Danvers and J.R. Sousa & Sons in Peabody. He then returned to GTE Sylvania where he was a financial manager prior to his retirement in 1986.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his
Grandchildren. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed bowling. He belonged to the
AOH Div. 11 of Peabody and the Leo Council #508 Knights of Columbus of Peabody.
Surviving him besides his wife are three sons, Michael Gill and his wife Debbie of Concord, NH, Peabody firefighter Robert A. Gill and Kevin Gill and his wife Kathleen
And their children Ryan and Krysten all of Peabody, 2 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law,
Alfred and Shirley Gill, Walter Gill and Mrs. Frank (Tillie) Gill all of Peabody and
Many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Francis Mull Gill.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by Mass of Christian
Burial in St. John's Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM Burial will
be in Cedar GRove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours on
Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Relatives and friends are
kingly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the
ALS, Ma. Chapter, 7 Lincoln St., Wakefield, Ma. 01880 in
his memory.
