Obituary of Philip J. Crean Sr.

Philip J. Crean Sr., 74, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at the Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Rosemary E. (Gray) Crean who died 3 years ago. He was born in Peabody on September 2, 1929, the son of the late Francis and Kathleen (Rennick) Crean and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He had been employed at the former United Shoe Machine Corp. of Beverly for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1987. He was veteran of WW 11, having served overseas with the U.S. Army. Mr. Crean was first employed at the former A.C. Lawrence Leather Co., of Peabody. He had coached in the Peabody Little League program while his sons were playing for many years and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. He is survived by 5 sons, Philip J. Crean Jr. and his wife Nancy and Paul E. Crean all of Salisbury; David J. Crean, Thomas M. Crean and his wife Lorraine and Daniel J. Crean and his wife Sharon all of Peabody; 2 brothers, Francis Crean of Peabody and Richard Crean of Brockton, 3 sisters, Mary Carney, Catherine Arno and Barbara Crean all of Danvers, eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles Crean. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody at 9:00 a.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, Ma. 01923.
