Obituary of John W. Whippen Sr.

John W. Whippen, 65, of Saugus, Ma., died unexpectedly last Friday while vacationing in Aruba. He was the husband of Frances Francine (Nadeau) Whippen with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. He was born in East Boston, on November 1, 1938, the son of the late William and Marion (Landers) Whippen; he was raised there and had resided in Saugus prior to his marriage. He then lived in Peabody for 30 years and then moved to Orlando, Florida before moving back to Saugus 15 years ago. He had been an electrician working out of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union in Boston, Local 103 for 45 years until his retirement last September. He and his father owned the Shell Service Station on Lowell St., Peabody for many years and later he owned the Castle Rock Springs Bottling Co. in Saugus. He had been a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, and while living in Peabody, was active in Cub Scout Pack 106. Mr Whippen loved to travel and go on cruises and vacationed in Aruba for the past 30 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Phyllis Whippen of Ipswich, Ma., a daughter and son - in-law, Karen and Steven Osborn of Wichita, Ks. three sisters-in-law and their spouses, Barbara Ann and Mel Casa of Wakefield, Joanne Pepe and John of Honolulu, Hawaii and Nadine and Joseph Di Giulio of West Peabody; 8 grandchildren, Bobby, Chris, Tim, Ashley and Andrew all of Ipswich and Meagan, Clay and Bailey all of Wichita, KS, and loved by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews... He was the brother of the late Marion Betty Winter. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by Services in St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church, Washington St., Peabody at 10:00 A.M. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours on Friday from 4:00 until 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
