Obituary of James G. Collins
James G. Collins, 83, of Peabody, died Tuesday at the Salem Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Peabody on November 27, 1920, the son of the late George and Arete (Cremidas) Collins and was a lifelong resident of the city.
He was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1938 and the Hawthorne
Business Institute in Salem in 1940.
He was first employed at his father’ s Collins Market on Walnut Street, Peabody.
He then owned and operated the Fairview Club on Walnut St., Peabody for 25 years and later purchased the Half Dollar Bar on Route 1, Peabody which he operated simultaneously for 15 years until his retirement in 1985. He then became a manager at the Coronet Hotel in Peabody for 10 years.
He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in- law, Helen and Tommy Markos of Ipswich, Ma. and Sandra Collins of Peabody; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Maria Collins of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Angelo, Patrick and Portia Collins.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. Peabody. Visiting hours on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Vasilios Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, and Ma. 01960.
