Obituary of Edward F. "Red" Moran Jr.

Edward F. Red Moran Jr. 60 years, husband of Catherine L. Cathy (Walsh) Moran of Peabody, died Monday morning at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a lengthy illness. Mr. Moran was born June 25, 1943 in Salem son of the late Edward F. and May (Judge) Moran. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School class of 1961. While in high school played short stop for his baseball team. He served as a SP5 in the United States Army for 3 years which included a 1 year tour of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Moran’ s working career began as a salesman for the Nabisco Company. He was presently employed as the transportation coordinator for LBK Transportation Co. of Danvers and previously in the same capacity for the Peabody Council on Aging and Brooksby Village in Peabody for many years. For 15 years prior to this he was the managing dispatcher for Congraf of Needham and Boston. Mr. Moran was a member of the AOH Division 11, the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 both in Peabody and the Knights of Columbus in Lynnfield . He was an avid sports fan, coached softball and helped to train children learning to play football. He enjoyed music and attending concerts, traveling and camping with his family. He had a love for dogs. His will especially be remembered by his family for his promptness. In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 daughters, Tina L. Moran of Kotzebue Alaska and Colleen L. Barnes of Peabody; a son, James E. Moran of Peabody; his former wife, Virginia M. (Reichert) Moran of Peabody; a niece, Annie Morrill of NY and 3 nephews, Randy Lyon of Peabody, Nick Lyon of Merrimac and Ben Morrill of CT. He was also pre deceased by a son Edward F. Moran III. His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
