Obituary of Lawrence J. Murphy Sr.
Lawrence J. Murphy Sr., 83, of Peabody died early Sunday
Morning at his residence. He was the husband of the late Edna L. (Lavery) Murphy.
He was born in Arlington, MA on February 21, 1921, the son of the late John L. and
Georgianna (Rosenberger) Murphy and was raised in Revere before moving to Peabody 50 years ago. Mr. Murphy was a graduate of Revere High School and Northeastern University.
He was a veteran of WW 11 serving as a Sergeant with the 253 2nd Army Air Force Base unit.
Following his discharge, he was employed as an engineer with the A.T. & T. Co., later called Lucent Technologies in Cambridge for 25 years prior to his retirement 22 years ago.
He was a pilot who loved to fly and work on airplane engines and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and also the Civil Air Patrol with the Portsmouth NH Chapter.
In his later years, Mr. Murphy became a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program in
Peabody and also drove for the American Cancer Society.
He is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence J. and Sharon Murphy Jr. of Hampton, NH and Richard J. Murphy of Peabody, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary T. and Reed Prior of Germantown, MD and Kathleen and David McCann of Medfield, MA, a sister, Jeanette Simmons of Peabody, 9 grandchildren, Leah M. Ladd, John L. and Matthew J. Murphy, Adam G., Colleen A. and Leigh K. Prior, Jessica L., Robin E. and
David W. McCann and a step-granddaughter, Channelle Ladd and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. from the
Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, So. Peabody at 9:00 a.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
