Obituary of Joseph Liduino Vargas

Joseph Liduino Vargas, 63, of Salem, died Tuesday evening at the Mass General Hospital, Boston after a long illness. He was the husband of Albertina (Goulart) Vargas with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. He was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal on November 18, 1940, the son of the late Manuel and Melba (Nunes) Vargas and had resided there before moving to Salem, Ma. 40 years ago. He had been a forklift driver at the Osram Sylvania Co. at the Sylvan St., Danvers plant for 23 years. Later he became a school crossing guard for the City of Salem School Dept. He was an avid fisherman and loved to cook and spend time with his family. Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Ivone and John Silva of Salem, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Manuel and Rose Vargas of Spring Hill, Fl, and Alfredo and Maria Vargas of Pawtucket, RI, 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Palmira DaGloria Zefrino of Portugal and Gabriela and Antonio Pereira of Ontario, Canada, 2 grandchildren, Tiffany and Kyle Silva of Salem, a god child, Brenda Terra of Salem, 7 brother and sisters in law, Januario and Maria Terra of Salem, Ann Ortins of Beverly, Leonor Furtado, Manuel Goulart and Jose and Liduina Goulart all of Peabody, Joao Goulart and Bernadette and Joao Azevedo all of Portugal and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 10:00 am. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
