Obituary of Elizabeth M. (Quinn) Allen
Elizabeth Margaret (Quinn) Allen, formerly of Salem, died Monday evening, June 14, 2004 in Marblehead. She was the wife of the late William Allen and the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Elizabeth (Conway) Quinn and the granddaughter of the late Judge Joseph F. Quinn who served for eighteen years on the
Massachusetts Superior Court.
She was born in Peabody in 1918 and moved to Beverly graduating from Beverly High School in 1936. She later graduated from Radcliffe College, magna cum laude in 1940 where she majored in English Literature.
She had resided most of her life with her family in Salem and had been employed as a trust officer for the then Merchants/Warren and later the Shawmut Bank for many years. She was first employed in the public relations department of the Children’ s Friend Society and the Salem United Fund.
Mrs. Allen was a member of the Board of Directors of Brookhouse in Salem, the Seamen’ s Widow and Orphan Society and was affiliated with Hamilton Hall of Salem, the Salem Athenaeum and was a communicant of St. James Parish, Salem for many years.
She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, William J. and Amabel Allen of Cumberland, RI, and Charles F. and Christine Allen of Marblehead, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Brian Shaughnessy of Salem and Elizabeth and Harry Taft of Topsfield, Eleven Grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Thomas D. Quinn and Joseph F. Quinn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in Star of the Sea Church, Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, and Ma. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
There are no visiting hours. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. Family
Has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer’ s Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence RI 02906 or the Seamen’ s Widow and Orphan Society, c/o Peter Doran, 19 Sharon Rd., So. Hamilton, MA 01982 in her memory.
