Obituary of Lawrence M. Dolan
Lawrence Larry M. Dolan, beloved husband of Mary P. (Gilhooly) Dolan of Peabody, passed away at his home on Saturday evening after his long battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Margaret L. (McGuire) Dolan and the late Lawrence J. Dolan.
Mr. Dolan grew up in Lynn, and upon graduating from Lynn English High School, Class of 1950, he entered the U.S. Army as a Private and left his post as a Sargeant Major. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, and received a special award in 2000 from Kim-Dae-Jng, President of South Korea for his outstanding efforts.
When Mr. Dolan returned from Korea he stayed active in the Army Reserve, and became an Assistant Branch Manager for the Lynn Five Savings Bank in Swampscott.
He began his career as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in 1970 in Danvers, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.
He was an avid collector , enjoyed Baseball, working in his yard, spending time with his family. One of his greatest joys was working part-time in his retirement at Vic’ s Miniature Golf in the summer seasons.
He will be greatly missed by those who loved him including: his wife, Mary P. (Gilhooly) Dolan of Peabody, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage; his adoring children, Patricia L. Dolan of Malden and Michael L. Dolan of Peabody; his future son-in-law, Steven M. Anderson of Malden; his brother, William J. Dolan of Ft. Pierce, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Joseph’ s Cemetery, Lynn. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice and the Oncology Unit at Beverly Hospital for their exceptional care for Mr Dolan and the family during this time.
