Obituary of Sister Modesta Lennon S.N.D.
Sister Modesta Lennon S.N.D. 98 years, died Friday at the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center in Ipswich.
Sr. Lennon was born August 2, 1905 Elizabeth M. Lennon in Roscommon Ireland daughter of the late Thomas and Delia (Healy) Lennon.
Sr. Lennon entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Novitiate at Waltham February 2, 1937, professed her first vows on July 30, 1939 and her perpetual vows on July 30, 1945. Sister’ s ministries in community service were in Waltham, South Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Ipswich and at Emmanuel College in Boston.
Many nieces and nephews survive Sister Lennon. She was predeceased by her siblings, Patrick, Michael, John, Edward, Thomas, William, Lena, Brigid, Walter, Sr. Louise St. Joseph SND, Sr. Theresa St. Anne SND and most recently by Theresa Geraghty of Ireland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey’ s Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame Residence in Ipswich. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Notre Dame Development Office, 340 Plantation St., Worcester MA 01604.
