Obituary of James F. Ryder
James Frederick Ryder, 75, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Sunday evening at the Beverly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Nevins) Ryder and later the late Anne L. (Gomez) Ryder.
He was a lifelong resident of Peabody, born on June 14, 1929, the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Lufkin) Ryder . He was a graduate of Peabody High School in
1947 where he played on the Baseball and Hockey teams.
He was first employed as a landscape gardener for four years and then enlisted in the
US Army where he served in the Korean War for 2 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody.
Following his discharge, he worked at the United States Post Office in Peabody as a letter carrier for 22 years and then as a postal clerk for 10 years prior to his discharge in 1994. He was a retired member of the American Postal Workers Union.
He was a sports enthusiast and loved animals and swimming with his grandchildren.
He is survived by 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, David M. and Catherine M. Ryder of Beverly, Daniel and Dean Ryder both of Peabody, a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and
Bambang Eddy Subegdjo of Peabody, a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Donald
Nelson of Peabody, 7 grandchildren, Sean and Katie Ryder of Beverly and Derek and Danielle Ryder, Tina, Rukayah, and Safiya Subegdjo all of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was the sister of the late Eleanor Ryder.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church,Peabody at 11:00 AM Burial in Puritan Lawn Mem. Park,Peabody. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
