Obituary of Charles T. "Charlie" MacKay

Charles T. Charlie MacKay 90 years, husband of Catherine V. Kay (Ward) MacKay of Peabody, died unexpectedly Thursday at his home. Mr. MacKay was born May 6, 1914 in Salem son of the late Angus and Emily (MacKay) MacKay. He was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School class of 1933. During WWII he served as a Chief Machinist Mate in the United States Navy and was a deep-sea salvage diver. Following his marriage in 1949 he moved to Peabody. Mr. MacKay was employed for 35 years as a machinist in the aircraft engine division at the G.E. Riverworks Plant in Lynn until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 508, Peabody Council on Aging, the Golden Agers, Tannery Association and the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center all in Peabody. His many hobbies, which he enjoyed, were boating, fishing, gardening, traveling, ballroom dancing and reading history. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 daughters, Maureen A. Pinciaro of Peabody, Patricia Miezwa Henden and her husband Neil E. Henden of Danvers; a son, Mark P. MacKay of Seattle WA; 2 sisters, Genevieve Moran of Salem and Marcella Jank of Georgetown and several nieces and nephews. His siblings Andrew and Catherine F. MacKay also predeceased him. His funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’ s choice.
