Obituary of Lempi E. "Helen" Laitinen

Lempi E. Helen Laitinen, 86, of Salem, MA and formerly of Peabody, died Monday at the Douglas Wentworth Hospital in Dover, NH after a long illness. She was born and raised in Peabody, the daughter of the late Wilho and Amalia (Nyman) Laitinen and had resided in Peabody most of her life before moving to Salem a few months ago. She was a graduate of Peabody High School and attended Salem State College. She was first employed at the former Stanley’ s Cafeteria in Salem. She later became a bookkeeper and office manager for the Salem Chamber of Commerce for 25 years prior to her retirement in 1975. She enjoyed reading and needle pointing and was devoted to the caring of her family. She is survived by her life long friend, Mrs. Sylvia Moynihan of Salem, MA and her family who cared for her during the past few years. She was the sister of the late Karlo Laitinen and Aune Laitinen. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM at St. John’ s Lutheran Church, 32 Ellsworth Rd.,Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
