Obituary of Francis P. "Cubby" Cronan
Francis P. Cubby Cronan, 78, of Peabody, died Thursday afternoon at his home, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Tully) Cronan.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Crean) Cronan. He attended Salem Public schools and was a graduate of Salem High School. He had been a resident of Peabody for the past 48 years.
He was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army Air Corps. He was the recipient of the Occupation and WWII Victory Medal
Prior to his retirement in 1989, he worked for over 35 years for Massachusetts Electric Company in Beverly as an underground cable splicer. He enjoyed running, golfing, spending time with his family and bowling and in his younger days, played baseball.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Jeannette Cronan of Peabody; five daughters and sons-in-laws, Anne and Robert Gamer of Danvers, Patricia and Richard Kenneally of Barnstead, NH, Elizabeth and Mark Paulino of Danvers, Frances and Peter Ellison of Peabody, Maureen A. Cronan and her finance Tim Smith, both of Beverly; two brothers, John Cronan of Wenham, and Jerome Cronan of Overland Park, KS; a sister, Mary Theresa Labelle of Beverly; 16 grandchildren, Ben, Niki, Ruth, Kate, and Sam Gamer, Erin and Patrick Doherty, Beca, Shannon, and Lizzie Paulino, Jill Mason, Emilee, Peter, and Angela Ellison, and Jacqueline and Jeremy Cronan. He also is survived by several nieces, nephews and his long time companion Emma Everson of Peabody. He was the brother of the late Gerard and Thomas Cronan, and Rosemary Ward.
His funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Sunday from 3 until 7 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
