Obituary of Richard N. Cassidy
Richard N. Cassidy, 71, beloved husband of the late Marilyn (Walsh) Cassidy, died unexpectedly at the Salem Hospital on Wednesday following a long illness.
Born in Peabody, he was a lifelong resident of the city. He was the son of the late John and Barbara R. (Johansen) Cassidy. He attended Peabody schools, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1950
Mr. Cassidy was quite athletic. He played on the Peabody High School Baseball Team, and was a top prospect for the pros. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, yet was also drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He played on the Army Baseball Team.
He also loved Fishing, boating on his Cabin Cruiser, skiing, and general avid sports fan. He was a past Commodore of the Jubilee Yacht Club, and member of the AOH, Division 11 of Peabody.
He worked with New England Telephone, and retired as a Plant Service Manager with NYNex after 37 years with the company.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, with service in the United States Army.
He is survived by: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara & David E. Walsh, Sr., Patricia Cassidy, and Colleen & Simon Gonzalez, Jr., all of Peabody; seven grandchildren, U.S. Army Sgt. David E. Walsh, Jr. & his wife, Belinda, just returned from Iraq, Danny Walsh, Kaitlin Kurtzke, Kimberly Kurtzke, Simon Gonzalez, Alexander Gonzalez, and Elizabeth Gonzalez, all of Peabody; two great-grandchildren, David E. Walsh, III and Dylan Walsh both of Peabody; four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Walsh) Cassidy, who died July 19th this year after 48 years of marriage, and his parents.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. Peabody location, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM in the Conway facility, 12 Chestnut St. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
