Obituary of May (Melanson) Manoogian
May (Melanson) Manoogian, 91, of Peabody, MA, wife of Gregory Manoogian died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 at her summer cottage in New Hampshire.
She was born on August 20, 1913 in Salem, MA, the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Elizabeth (Bayne) Melanson and had resided in Peabody most of her life.
Mrs. Manoogian worked for the City of Peabody Assessors’ Office for many years. She retired in 1978 after more than 15 years of service. At her retirement party, she said she would miss her job serving the public, as she put it: I’ m just a people lover .
She worked for many years as church secretary for St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church in Peabody. She later taught Sunday school at the First Methodist Church in Peabody
Served as Church School Superintendent and Secretary/Treasurer of the Women’ s Society there for three years.
May loved family get togethers as well as attending all of her grandchildren’ s hockey games, dance recitals and plays. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and knitting, and loved spending time with her husband at the summer cottage in New Hampshire.
Surviving her besides her husband are a daughter and her husband, Bayne and George Demeritt of Middleton, MA, a grandson and his wife, John and Michelle Demeritt of Newburyport, a granddaughter, Ann Demeritt of Middleton, 4 great-grandchildren, Julie and Melissa Deschenes of Middleton and Harrison and Grace Demeritt of Newburyport, a sister and her husband, Ruth and Robert D’ Entremont of Danvers, 2 brothers and their wives, Richard and Eileen Melanson of Long Beach, CA and Raymond and Ursula Melanson of Bradford; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elsie, William, Arthur, Lawrence, Charles and John Melanson and Edna Hamlin.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill - Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility. Burial in Oak Dale Cemetery, Middleton.
A Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 AM prior to the Services. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
