Obituary of James Edward Swain
James Edward Swain, 80, of South Peabody, died Tuesday
Morning at his residence after a short illness. He was the husband of Bernice Laura
(Williams) Swain who would have celebrated their 60th Wedding anniversary on May 16.
Born in Saugus, he was the son of the late Frank and Beatrice (Deary) Swain, he was a graduate of Saugus High School in 1940 and had resided in Peabody for the past
51 years.
He had been a route deliveryman for the Frito-Lay Chip Company for 25 years
prior to his retirement in 1984.
A veteran of WW 11, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Griffin prior to
His discharge as a Seaman, First Class.
He was very active with St. Ann’ s Church in So. Peabody serving on the Parish Council, being an Extraordinary Minister, and helping with the needs of the parish for many years. He also volunteered his time 3 days a week for the North Shore Elders.
He was a member of the Gathering of Deciples of St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody.
He enjoyed golfing and being with family gatherings.
Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Swain of Newburyport, Ma., a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Michael Brown
Of Woodstock, Ga.; 3 brothers, Joseph and Richard Swain of Saugus and Thomas Swain
Of Leesburg, Fl., a sister, Beatrice Jerry Geaney of Ft. Myers, Fl., 11 grandchildren, 10
Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late
Charles, George, Gerald and Frank Swain.
A visitation
Will be held on Friday from 4:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the Chapel at St. Ann’ s Church,
Lynn St. & St. Ann’ s Ave, So. Peabody. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in St. Ann’ s Church to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St.

Peabody.
