Obituary of Nicholas Costa
Nicholas Costa, 89, of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Ingrid (Joukainen) Costa with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage.
Born and raised in East Boston, he attended Boston High School and Boston Trade High School. He later attended Northeastern University in Boston before enlisting with the United State Navy, where he served during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 28 years at Raytheon as a Principle Industrial Engineer in the Andover and Lowell Plants Missile Systems Division. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and past president of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
He was an accomplished violinist and guitar player. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and cast surfing.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas and Barbara Costa and Kenneth and Elizabeth Costa, all of Groveland, and Gary and his wife Layne Costa of West Newbury; a daughter, Marilyn Costa and her significant other Thomas Purcell of Atkinson, NH, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Victoria Costa of Derry, NH, and Dominic and Mary Costa of Boca Raton, Fla; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nancy Marotta of New York City, and Mary and Joseph Losurdo of Oswego, NY, also is survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be start on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by Services at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM.
