Obituary of Clarence E. LeBell
Clarence LeBell 91 years, husband of Rita I. (LeBlanc) LeBell of Peabody, died Monday morning at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody.
Mr. LeBell was born on July 18, 1913 in Boston son of the late Edgar J. and Anna (Ingram) LeBell. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School class of 1933. He later pursued his education in engineering at Lowell Institute. He resided in Lynn before moving to Peabody in 1954.
Mr. LeBell was employed for 44 years as a detail designer at the General Electric Riverwork Plant in Lynn until his retirement in 1980. He also taught drafting at Northeastern University for several years.
Mr. LeBell was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. During the 30’ s he ran the Boston Marathon, was a lightweight boxer and wrestler. As an avid outdoorsman he dog sledded to the North Pole, climbed Mt. Baker, Mt. McKinley, Mt Adams, Mt. Rainier and Mt. Katahadin in Maine during the winter in snowshoes and skis. He also enjoyed white river rafting and spelunking in caves. At the age of 72 years he parachuted out of an airplane.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 68 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands, Martha A. (McDonald) Liversage and Ken Liversage of Salem, Stephanie A. and Stephen Bradley of Cave Creek AZ; a brother, Leonard LeBell of Louisiana; a sister Alice Delehanty of Lynn; 3 grandchildren, Thomas McDonald of Beverly, Peter McDonald of AZ and Bethany Bradley of RI; 2 great grandchildren, Benjamin and Meghan McDonald of Beverly and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923
