Obituary of Irene G. (Long) Lane
Irene G. (Long) Lane, 87, of Peabody died Tuesday at the residence of her daughter in Danvers after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Christopher P. Lane Jr.
She was born in Malden, MA on July 25, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Nora (Murphy) Long and was educated there and later was a graduate of Wheelock College of Boston. She had resided in Medford before moving to Peabody 53 years ago.
She was a substitute school teacher, first in Malden schools and later in the Peabody Public School System for 10 years prior to her retirement.
She loved to cook and be with her family and had been a member of the St. John’ s Church Ladies Sodality.
Mrs Lane is survived by 3 sons and a daughter, Andrew D. Lane and Stephen J. Lane of Peabody , Christopher P. Lane III of Boston, and Elizabeth A. Betsy Lane of Danvers; 3 grandchildren, Peabody police officer Stephanie C. Lane, Jennifer E. Lane and Andrew M. Lane all of Peabody. She was the mother of the late Philip A. Lane.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited..
