Obituary of Philip N Smyrnios
Philip N. Smyrnios, 86, of Peabody, died Tuesday September 28, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Eunice (Sheridan) Smyrnios with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody on August 18, 1918, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Bessie (Karvounaris) Smyrnios. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1937 and Salem State College in 1941.
Mr. Smyrnios was a child of the Great Depression and began working at age 12 selling newspapers in Peabody Square and selling household necessities house-to-house. He was a line supervisor at G.E., taught Turner Falls School System and sold office equipment for Royal Typewriter Corp. However, the job he was most proud of was a business teacher at Peabody Veteran’ s Memorial High School for 22 years.
He was a lifelong member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody and a member of the Mechanics Lodge AF & AM in Montague City.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Nicholas and Roxanne Smyrnios of Shrewsbury, a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Frank McCann Jr., of Danvers, a sister, Priscilla Smyrnios of Peabody; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Philip, and Danielle Smyrnios, all of Shrewsbury. He was the brother of the late Emmanuel Smyrnios and PFC Augustus N. Smyrnios, USAAF.
His funeral service will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by Funeral Services in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 5 until 8 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
