Obituary of Kenneth L. Purington

Kenneth L. Purington, 87, of Peabody, and formerly of Lynn, died Monday morning at the Hunt Nursing and Retirement Home in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy (Kinney) Purington with whom he shared over 58 years of marriage Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Leonard and Florence (Gates) Purington. He was educated in Lynn, attended Lynn Public Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1934. Upon marrying his wife, he moved to Peabody, later lived in West Newbury before moving back to Peabody, and has spent the last year and half living in Danvers. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he worked for over 43 years as a machinist for General Electric in Lynn. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the WWII Victory, American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific Theatre, and the Philippine Liberation Medals. He was an avid reader and Red Sox Fan as well as an avid Notre Dame Football Fan. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Purington of Dixville Notch, NH, and Richard and Margaret Purington of Danvers, four grandchildren, Donald, Matthew, Thomas, and Christopher Purington. He was the father of the late Donald Purington and grandfather of the late Elizabeth Purington. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
