Obituary of Columbo "Lum" Marchetti

Columbo Lum Marchetti 82 years, husband of Evelyn (Ostapchuk) Marchetti of Beverly formerly of Peabody, died Sunday morning at the Montserrat Nursing & Rehabilitation of Beverly. Mr. Marchetti was born August 31, 1922 in Bourne MA son of the late Bartolomeo and Costanza Maria (Pasteris) Marchetti. He was raised and educated in Peabody and resided here before moving to Beverly in 1999. During WWII he served as Corporal in the U.S. Army Hq & Base Service Squadron 488th Air Service Group and saw battle in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Marchetti was employed for 45 years as a leather worker retiring in 1982 from Rex Leather Company in Peabody. He was a member of the Italian American Citizens Club in Peabody and the Patria e Lavoro Society of Beverly. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed Polka dancing, bowling, traveling and gardening. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his a son and his wife, Philip C. and Jean Marie Marchetti of Beverly and his grandchildren, Christina and James Bradley of Bethesda MD, Elizabeth Marchetti of SanDiago CA and David Marchetti of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by his siblings Emelio Babe Marchetti and Angelina Vercellone. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 - 7:30 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
