Obituary of Betty (Fruean) Perakis

Betty Perakis, 89, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Wilton Meadows Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Allen Perakis. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Goodspeed) Fruean. She was raised and educated in Dorchester and attended Dorchester Public Schools. She later attended Boston Teachers College which later became Boston State College and earned her Bachelor’ s and Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the City of Peabody School System for many years as a substitute teacher and later at the Temple Ner Tamid in Peabody as a kindergarten teacher. She enjoyed watching and supporting Peabody Little League Baseball and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan! She also was a member of the South Peabody Bridge Club, Lakeshore Park Methodist Church, and she wove and hooked many rugs for her family. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Susie Perakis of Wilton, CT., Charles and LuAnn Perakis of Scarborough, ME; and Robert and Sue Perakis of Strafford, NH; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Al Ruddick of Cape Cod, and three grandchildren, Alexandra, Christine and James Perakis. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Lakeshore Park Methodist Church, Lynn to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4 until 7 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Diabetes Assoc., 1 Bromfield St., Suite 5, Boston, MA 02108.
