Obituary of Francis J. Shaimas, Sr.
Francis J. Shaimas Sr. 86 years, husband of Valentyna M. (Sedlar) Shaimas of Peabody, died Monday at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody.
Mr. Shaimas was born August 23, 1918 in Danvers son of the late Michael and Magdeline (Hawreluke) Shaimas. He was raised and educated in Danvers and moved to Peabody in the late 1940’ s.
Mr. Shaimas was a well-known oil retailer who owned and operated Gardner Oil Company in Peabody from 1948 until his retirement in 1998. He was a member and Past President of the Peabody Lions Club and the Peabody Chamber of Commerce, member of the Knight of Columbus Leo Council 508 and served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Citizens Bank & Trust both in Peabody. Born in 1918 and as an avid Red Sox fan he witnessed their 2004 World Series win. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling and his rose bushes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Maryellen Rodriguez of Boca Raton FL, Geraldine and Akbar Massoudi of Woburn; 2 sons and their wives, Francis J. Tiny Shaimas Jr. and Teresa Shaimas of Peabody, Edwin Paul and Debi Shaimas of Palo Alto CA; a dear niece, Vera DiPietro of Haverhill; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. followed with a service at 10 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 5 - 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Schepens Eye Research Instittute, 20 Staniford St., Boston MA 02114.
