Obituary of Raymond B. Conway

Raymond B. Conway, 85, of Peabody, a retired well known Letter carrier, died Sunday at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Alice M. (McNeil) Conway who died in 1999. He was born in Peabody on June 7, 1919, the son of the late John and Ann (Berrigan) Conway and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1938 where he excelled on the football and baseball teams. He was a distinguished veteran of WW 11, serving in the 157th Infantry Division of the US Army and was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge and a Silver and a Bronze Star while in battle in European, African , Rhineland and Italian invasions. Following his discharge, he began his career as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service in Peabody serving for 38 years until his retirement in 1984. He also worked Evenings at the former Raymond’ s Pharmacy in Peabody Square for 30 years. He had been a member of the Leo Council # 508, Knights of Columbus of Peabody, the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, the National Assn. of Retired Federal Employees and the 157th Infantry Association. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Laurence and Linda Conway of Burlington, Ma, a sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Paul Frink of Gibbon, Nebraska, Two grandsons, Laurence Conway II and Michael Conway both of Burlington, Ma and Many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
