Obituary of David E. Power
David E. Power 80 years husband of Mary C. (McDonald) Power of Peabody died unexpectedly on Thursday at the Lahey Clinic North in Peabody.
Mr. Power was born May 11 1924 in Cambridge son of the late John S. and Mary M. (Gray) Power. He was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School class of 1942. During WWII he served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and saw battle in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945.
Prior to his retirement in 1994, Mr. Power was employed as a salesman at the North Shore Hardware Company in Lynn. Following WWII he began his working career as a salesman with Boston area companies and was also employed for many years at Zina Goodell of Salem and Danvers Hardware. He was a member of the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 and St. Michael’ s Society in Peabody. Mr. Power was an avid reader and enjoyed reading and woodworking as a hobby.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, he is survived by 3 sons and their wives David E. Power Jr. and Linda Power of Phippsburg, ME, Kevin R. and Kathleen Power of Ipswich, Neil S. and Deborah Power of Merrimac; 2 daughters, Maureen E. Power of Silver Spring, MD and Julia A. Power of Beverly; a sister and her husband, Frances and Henry Gooszen of MS; 6 grandchildren, Justin and Matthew Power of Ipswich, Nathan and Katherine Power of ME, Christopher and Megan Power of Merrimac; a sister-in-law Eleanor Boyd of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, John, Charles and Robert Power.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 5 - 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’ s choice.
