Obituary of Richard S. Codair

Richard S. Codair, 81, of Sanibel, Florida, formerly of Peabody and Topsfield died peacefully early morning, June 27, 2019 at the HealthPark Medical Center, Fort Myers, FL. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Amaral) Codair with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was born in Peabody on April 13, 1938, the son of the late Emil V. and Frances A. (Dunn) Codair and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1955. He received his associates in accounting from Bentley College and his Bachelor of Science from Suffolk University with cum laude distinction. He received his Master of Education from Salem University and continued his education with 45 credits beyond his Masters. He was employed with the Peabody Public Schools for 30 years, first as a teacher then as Unit Director at the Higgins Junior High School and later at the Peabody Veterans Memorial High School serving as Unit Director for “C” House before retiring in 2004. While teaching and in his retirement, he assisted his wife at Lois Codair Realty in Peabody Square. He was an avid sports follower. He played baseball for St. Thomas CYO and the Friscoe Athletic Club and enjoyed skiing in his youth. He coached various Little League teams. He was an enthusiastic golfer and it carried him into his senior years. His memberships were at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club, Beachview Golf Club in Sanibel, FL and a social member at the Salem Country Club, Peabody. In Florida, he belonged to the Captiva Island Yacht Club and St. Isabel’s Church. In his youth, Richard served as an altar boy at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Salem and was a faithful church member wherever he resided. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren creating Camp Codair at the family home where they met weekly. He loved watching them grow, enjoying sports and maturing into adulthood. He and his wife, Lois, were world travelers. They enjoyed experiencing the many different cultures and customs of people especially in Europe and Asia. In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by his daughter, Cheryl M. Codair of Orleans, MA, his two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Lisa Codair of Bedford, NH and Michael E. Codair of Gloucester, MA, his seven grandchildren, Jason, Sophia, Rachel, Caroline, Kathleen, Lucas and Michael Codair, his sister-in-law, Susan Ryan and her companion Doug Johnson of Sarasota, FL, his niece Alison Ryan of Corona, CA and his nephew Nathaniel “Nate” Ryan and wife Jodie of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick Ronald Codair C.F.X. of the Xaverian Brothers. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:30 until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody at 12 Noon. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
