Obituary of William J. Martin III

William J. Martin III, 73, of West Peabody, died Sunday morning, July 21, 2019 at the Lahey North Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Joy (Beller) Martin, with whom he shared over wonderful 43 years of marriage. He was the son of Jane (Wall) Martin and the late William J. Martin Jr. He was raised in Arlington, graduating from the first class of Arlington Catholic High School in 1964. He then graduated from Northeastern University College of Pharmacy in 1970 and worked as a pharmacist in Maryland and Michigan before returning to Peabody, MA in 1977. He then became the proprietor of the family business of Proctor & Martin until 1996, when he returned to the pharmacy profession before retiring in 2013. He enjoyed going up to the family cottage at Lake Wentorth, NH in the summers, where he loved to swim, row, and sail. He also liked taking road trips with his wife, playing his keyboard, woodcarving, reading, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy, of Peabody, and daughter, Keara Martin and her fiancé, Andre Laffitte of Quincy, MA; his siblings and their spouses, James Martin of Andover, John and Sara Martin of Burlington, MA, Jane and Robert Blaney of Bedford, NH, Mary and Thomas Hartwell of Andover, Patricia and Guy Genereux, and Terri and Michael Kowalyk all of Chelmsford, MA and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Service will be held there on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
