Obituary of Antonio Fernandes Pimenta
Antonio F. Pimenta, 92 of Peabody, died Monday, July 22, 2019 at the NSMC-Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Maria (Carrancho) (Correira) Pimenta and the late Florence (Abbondanza) Pimenta who died in 1985. A lifelong resident of Peabody, he was born on August 12, 1926, the son of the late Jose and Carma (Almeida) Pementa and was a graduate of Peabody High School. Antonio served in WW II in the Americal Division with the first Calvary of the US Army in the Pacific prior to his discharge in 1946. Upon his return, he became a machinist at Sylvania Electric at the Loring Ave, Salem plant for 50 years prior to his retirement. Antonio in his earlier years enjoyed going horseback riding in West Peabody. He was very adept with his hands and loved to make jig-saw puzzles. He was also an avid reader and a history buff reading biographies and newspapers daily. He was a member and a past co-commander of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post 1 of Peabody for many years. He is survived by his wife, Maria of Peabody, his two sons, Joseph Pimenta of Falls Church, VA and Michael Pimenta of New Boston, NH, his two daughters, Maddie Pimenta of Peabody and Lisa and her husband Daniel La Forge of Essex, MA, three sisters, Ida Pementa and Dolores Pementa both of Cooper City, Florida and Sally Pereira of Peabody, eight grandchildren and a recent great grandson Theo and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Atty. David Pimenta and the late Peabody Firefighter Daniel Pimenta. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem line at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the P.A.W.V.
