Obituary of James Chigas

James Chigas, 80, husband of the late Doris M. (Frenette) Chigas, died Sunday July 21, 2019 at his home following a long illness. Born in Peabody on September 19, 1938, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Ida (Andrulonis) Chigas. He was raised and educated in Peabody. Mr. Chigas was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Following his discharge from the military, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Peabody Water Department prior to his retirement. He is survived by his sons, James A Chigas and his wife Donna of Salem, and Steven N. Chigas of Epping, NH. His grandchildren, Samantha M. Chigas of Salem and Derek S. Chigas of Lynn. His sister, Irene Glencross of Peabody, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Doris, he was predeceased by his siblings, Charles Chigas, Pauline Cauley, Andrea Shervington, and William Chigas. “Chig” always put his family first. He truly cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the charity of one’s choice. Following cremation, a visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM followed by a Funeral Service at 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
