Obituary of Lucy M. Silva

Lucy Margaret Silva, 83. A lifelong resident of Peabody died peacefully Thursday, August 3, 2006 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Peabody on April 3, 1923, the daughter of the late Manuel and Palmira (Silva) Silva and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1940. She was a secretary at the former United Shoe Machine Corp in Beverly for many years prior to her retirement. Lucy was very talented and enjoyed playing the piano and composing music. Throughout her illness, she continued to work at the Peabody Institute Library where she loved working with the young children dressing up as characters in the books and reading to them. Many people remember Lucy as the organizer of the annual bus pilgrimages to Our Lady of Fatima in Holliston, MA. She was also involved, along with her parents, for many years with the organization of the Annual Pentecost Sunday Holy Ghost processions at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Madeline J. and William Elwell of Peabody and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and her very dear and closest friends Edith Bettencourt and Julietta Lima both of Peabody. She was the sister of the late Cyrino Silva and recently, Mary R. Donahue. A visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 20 Church St., Peabody , followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s of the Annunciation, Conant St., Danvers at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Please omit flowers. Expressions of sympathy and/ or Mass Enrollments will be graciously accepted.
