Obituary of Peter Venetsanakos, Sr.

Peter Venetsanakos, Sr., 83, of Danvers, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of August 7, at Brigham and Women Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Panagiota (Scangas) Venetsanakos, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Peter was born in Plitra, Sparta, Greece, on April 3, 1936, son of the late Nicholas and Kalliope (Skalkos) Venetsanakos. He and his family emigrated to the United States when he was eleven years old Prior to his retirement, Peter worked as a machinist, a job in which he was exceptional at, for Cogent Engineering Inc. He was a member of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church community in Peabody. He loved bowling with his brothers and participated in various bowling leagues. Peter was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, Papou and brother, always enjoying the moments spent with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, especially on bus trips and vacationing on the Cape and New Hampshire. He had a love for boating, starting at a very young age while living on the water in Greece. Peter enjoyed watching western cowboy movies, playing cards, drawing, but most importantly devoting and dedicating his time to his wife and family. His absence will be felt by many, especially those that loved him; however, his spirit, kindness, generosity, compassion and laughter will always be remembered and revered. The way he lived his life will sustain those that loved him. Besides his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Callie Kiley & her husband Patrick of Danvers, Nicholas J. Venetsanakos & his wife Carol of Danvers, Katherine Tziachris & her husband Peter of Cumberland, RI, Peter Venetsanakos, Jr. of NH, Joanna Xerras & her husband George of Danvers; his grandchildren, Athena, Paul James, Zoe, Emma, Patrick, Aris, Nicholas X., and Nicholas V.; his siblings, Maria Grimbalis, Georgia Yannios, James Venetsanakos, Ernest Venetsanakos, and Catherine Anthony. He was predeceased by his siblings Zoe Mihalaros, Penny Gikas, and Joanne Diantgikis. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, from 2-6 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 12 at 11A.M. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody at 11A.M. AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY, EVERYONE IS KINDLY ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH MONDAY MORNING. He will be laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
